Improve With Raw Food
How I became A Raw Foodist and My Experiences With Raw Food
Eating raw should be eating clean, unless chemical fertilizers were used for growing vegetables, pestcides for fruit plants and hormones for with live stock. Only when we try to find the best organic food, we are eating clean.
About ten years ago, I began to put on a few pounds. I have seen many women
who kept a good figure throughout their life, so, I thought, there must be a way not to put on more weight and body fat, but get and stay slim.
I read a lot about nutrition and tried several diets. Several times during a few months I ate nothing for 5 to 10 days. This was the worst I could have done. While I did not eat anything my body went on saving mode and when I began to eat a little, the body held on to it as it did not know when it would again have to fast. Instead of loosing I gained weight and body fat. I began to cook Indian food. I loved it. And I loved to use lots of spices, which I still do today. All spices used in the Indian cooking have several positive effects. But I felt that eating lots of lentils is not good for me and it did not help loosing those few pounds. I tried a no fat diet. This was not good either.
What has changed my life since I am eating raw?
By chance I got to read a long article about eating a lot of red meat. I must mention that I was often told from doctors that I need to eat red meat and a test was telling me that I am a protein type person, which means that I need to eat meat, fish, eggs etc.. Reading the article about eating a lot of red meat, I remembered my father. He has put on some weight in his late fifties. He went on a meat only diet (lots of beef, chicken, ham, sausages, eggs, some green salads and a few tomatoes). He lost almost 20 pounds in one month and he kept it off until the rest of his life. In another article I read that our organism is not made to fully digest grain products and that people who eat lots of grain products through decades, it later on in life will show on their body. I also read that the cooking process is killing vitamins and other important nutrients and that we should eat life as much as possible, meaning fresh vegetables and fruits and that one should eat meat and fish raw if possible. One of the best European chefs said that when it smell in a kitchen that one says “Oh this smells geat!” you can forget about the nutrtitional value of that food. We began to cook almost everything we eat and too often overcook, has it’s roots in the time when there where cholera epidemics in Europe. People found out that cooked food did not make sick. Today, as we have clean water to wash vegetables and the food control in most countries prevents that we get bad meat, makes it possible to get back to eat more raw
. I also read that one has to eat enough fat, that the body would release body fat. Look at monks. Monks who regularly fast and when they break the fasting eat as normal, they put on body fat with each fast. When they eat the body stores fat for the next fasting period. Giving the body regularly enough fat it will stop to hold on to body fat. This is why fasting does not work for loosing not wanted body fat.
One day I went to the kitchen and threw away all cereal, noodles and flour and did not buy bread any more. Ever since I buy beef, lamb (different cuts), smoked ham, all kinds of fish, also smoked fish, lots of vegetables and fruits. I got to love raw meat. Of course one has to choose good quality meat. I eat steaks raw and ground beef or lamb. I mixe ground meat with an egg and with lots of spices. With every meal I had a large bowl of different vegetables topped only with some oil, herbs, some spices and lemon juice. When I began to eat raw and went shopping
I looked out what I could eat. It had to be raw and clean. I began to buy several different nuts and had a few nuts every day. But still I did not get enough fat. Certainly fatty fish is something very wonderful, but one does need some change. I began to eat 2 avocados and quite a few olives per week. I found sesame paste, called tahin, which I mix with a little water, salt, cumin and mint. When I buy cheese, I try to get cheese made from raw milk.
The result:
The pounds I tried to loose, melted away automatically. In a few months my body was slim as it was in my twenties. I looked great and felt great. I used to have a runny nose and believed to have to live with that. In a matter of days this was gone. I felt better, stronger, more energetic and I slept better. I also should mention that with this kind of diet you can forget about counting calories. Just eat as much as you want. One can eat a lot of noodles, pizzas or bread, cookies and cakes, but how much can anyone eat meat? No one ever ate countless steaks, one after the other. And the same goes for fruits or vegetables. Or have you ever heard that someone
overate on fruit?
How does the clean and raw food diet work?
I have to carry much more volume and weight with my groceries, as most foods in a clean and raw food diet are low on calories and large in volume. There is so much to eat that I am always satiated and never hungry.
What I eat during the day?
Breakfast: I start the morning with fruit. I always have several different fruits at home and eat what and how much I like. In case I am still hungry, I have an egg (raw or scrambled or sunny side up) or I have some cheese smoked salmon with heavy cream natural yogurt sausage made of beef or lamb and spices (nothing should be added)
When I am hungry during the morning hours, I have some more fruit. Berries and grapes are great. In winter, when the body needs more calories, I have some dried fruit and/or nuts.
Lunch and dinner: I have beef or lamb or fish and a large bowl with vegetables. I serve it on a plate nicely decorated. As dessert I have some berries with whipped cream or a Zabayone (an egg yolk mixed with a little white wine: it is becoming a light cream) or some ricotta cheese topped with a berry sauce and grounded nuts. There are more ideas and recipes which I might introduce some later time.
In the afternoon I always have fruit.
During the day I drink a lot of water. I am lucky to live in Vienna/Austria, were we get the tab water from a mountain. It is fresh and clean, better as expensive
bottled water and no chemicals are added. I put water into a jar, in which I have gems left natural (they should not be round and not be polished). They give positive radiation to the water and also have a cleaning function. With dinner I have a glass of wine, which is healthy and helps to digest.
About fruits and vegetables: In the first place I buy fruits and vegetables in their season from the area and I add exotic and other imported fruits. To eat a variety of fruits and vegetables is important as every fruit has different vitamins and minerals.
Chocolate: I was eating chocolate with 70% cocoa content. In recent years chocolate with 86 till 99% cocoa content came onto the market and I got used to them. Cocoa is rich on several important minerals, like magnesium, which is important for aging women. For good reasons cocoa used to be called in South America the fruit of the Gods.
Sweet craving: Are not known to clean and raw food eaters. One is getting sweet cravings when the body is missing important nutrients. And in case I do want something sweet, I have some ice-cream or some jam.
When I am visiting friends or family and they serve continental breakfast (rolls, butter, jam, honey and coffee), I soon afterwards feel hungry. I do not like to eat bread or noodles anymore. And I dislike the smell of most cooked food. As I am used to eat fresh food, cooked food stinks. When I walk the stairs in my apartment complex during dinner time, I quickly go to my apartment as I really dislike the smell coming out from the other apartments.
