I very well remember that during the years, when I was overweight, I used to buy a chocolate cake each day. This chocolate cake had more calories as an entire meal with several courses. I did not have so much healthy food. I rarely ate salads, meat or fish. I mostly ate pasta, which is fattening. Especially when you have no foods, which have some content of vitamins, minerals and phyto-chemicals. I was so sure I could not live without my daily chocolate cake.
There came one day when I decided to have salad and raw vegetables with my lunch and dinner. This is what happened: After a few days I went by the store where I bought the chocolate cake. Instead I was looking forward to get salad and raw vegetables.
There are two big differences between the chocolate cake and vegetables. When you eat vegetables your body gets all nutrients it needs and you soon feel satiated. And as you have to chew the vegetables longer, the digestion functions a lot better. Chewing activates digestive juices, which is not at all the case with the chocolate cake.
In the past 10 years I ate maybe three chocolate cakes. One time at a birthday party, another together with my mother and the third, because nothing else was offered.
